WE Center Pre - Apprenticeships

A Three - Point Approach

WE Center pre-apprenticeships utilize a three-point approach to maximize impact through strategic partnerships and tailored programming aligned with the populations we serve. Our model integrates School-Based CTE, Community Impact Projects, and Campus to Career programming. Through this approach, participants build practical skills, earn NCCER certification, and gain a clear pathway into full apprenticeship programs and long-term careers in the skilled trades.

School Based CTE

In partnership with Rising Warriors Academy, WE Center offers comprehensive, hands-on vocational program that includes NCCER Core certification, on-the-job experience/project-based learning. The program is further enriched with Driver’s Education, gardening, and audio-visual training to support well-rounded skill development.

Community Impact Projects

We serve young adults ages 16–20 and juvenile detainees through hands-on pre-apprenticeship programming that connects skill-building with meaningful community work. Participants gain real-world experience while preparing to transition into full apprenticeships in high-demand construction trades, including Heavy Equipment Operations, Carpentry, Project Management, Electrical, Plumbing, and Landscaping.

Campus to Career

In partnership with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, we provide Industrial Technology majors with project-based, hands-on learning experiences that strengthen technical skills, enhance workforce readiness, and increase employability.

Program Overview

This 8-week pre-apprenticeship program serves as an excellent gateway for individuals interested in pursuing a career in construction. By providing essential skills and knowledge through the NCCER CORE curriculum, it lays the ground work for a successful apprenticeship and long-term career in the construction industry. 


The pre - apprenticeship covers the following topics:


  • safety
  •  hand and power tools
  •  construction math
  •  materials handling
  •  construction drawings
  •  rigging  
  • employability skills





Program Details

  • Program Duration: 8 weeks
  • Total Program Hours: 32
  • Class Duration: 2 Hours
  • Session Frequency: 2 days per week

Pre-Apprenticeship Incentive Program

  • Test Scoring:
    - 100 = 20 Points
    - 90 = 10 Points
    - 80 = 8 Points
    - 70 = 5 Points
    - 60 or Below = -5 Points
    Note:
    - Retakes: A failed test can be retaken for completion of the class but will not earn points for the original test.

     
  • In-Class Points/ Participation Points:
    +1 Point for each correct answer
    -1 Point deduction for each incorrect answer
    Objective:
    - This system discourages guessing to promote understanding and participation.
     
  • Points Challenge/ Wagers:
    - Points can be wagered at any time during the class.
    - Important: Wagers must be placed before a question is asked.
    - Minimum/Maximum Wager: Minimum 2 points Maximum: 5 Points per wager.
     
  • Guidelines for Wagering:
    - Clearly state the number of points you wish to wager (up to 5) before the question is presented.
    - Winning a question will add the wagered points to your total.
    - Incorrect answers will deduct the wagered points from your total.

    Course Points Limit:
    - Total Points Available: 1500 points can be earned throughout the entire course.

Note: Once the maximum is reached, no additional points will be earned for the duration of the pre-apprenticeship course.


Completion Incentive: 

- Upon successful completion of the class, all points earned will be converted into monetary compensation in the form of a check issued by WE Center.
